A place where a child can play, explore and learn!

Curriculum

We use the Early Years Learning Framework, National Quality Framework, and Educational Theory to guide our practices. We provide an educational, play-based Curriculum. We believe in providing countless opportunities for children to play! For a child, play is work and is a vital process of growing up. In order to engage children actively in learning our educators, in partnership with families, identify children’s strengths and interests, choose appropriate teaching strategies and design the indoor and outdoor learning environments. https://thorntonchildcareandpreschoolcentre.com.au/curriculum/

School Readiness

We believe in providing children with the opportunities to develop the skills needed to confidently transition to school on a daily basis, from the beginning of the year. We believe that healthy self-esteem and positive self-concept are the key to a successful transition to school and provide an environment that is both stimulating and safe where children can explore, discover, and experiment.

We work in partnership with our families and local Transition to school Teacher to facilitate a beneficial transition process. https://thorntonchildcareandpreschoolcentre.com.au/school-readiness/

Quality Early Learning

In NSW all early childhood services participate in the assessment and rating process. Each centres operation is assessed against 7 Quality Standards. This process involves educators reflecting on current practices, setting goals for continuous improvement, and working towards achieving these goals. The centre then receives an assessment and rating visit where current practices, policies and procedures are reviewed.

Our centre is currently proudly rated as exceeding the National Quality Standards.

Links with Community

We feel it is important for children to build a sense of belonging in the wider community as well as within our centre. Local excursions and occasional incursions help support our curriculum and extend learning opportunities for children. We have links with our local library and borrow books to share with the children at the centre. We also have a close relationship with our local school.

Qualified Staff

We employ staff with a range of qualifications including Early Childhood Teacher’s, Diploma educators, and Certificate III educators. Our educational team has many years of experience in early education, and this helps to ensure the quality of our learning program. Our teachers guide our curriculum development. All educators have a current cleared working with children check. We always have educators on site who have their current first aid certificate.

Healthy Meals

Our cook plans and prepares all meals based upon recommended nutrition guidelines and prepares all meals on site each day. We provide morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea daily. Our menus are seasonal, with a rotation of 4 different weekly menus for each season and the menu is always on display to ensure families are informed of the foods that are being offered to their children. For our younger children under 2 years, our cook can prepare pureed or mashed foods as required.
