Curriculum
We use the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) to guide our practices. The Early Years Learning Framework is a document created to help, “extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to five years and through the transition to school” (EYLF, 2009, P5). Working in partnership with families, educators use the learning outcomes in the EYLF to guide their planning for children’s learning. In order to engage children actively in learning, educators in conjunction with families identify children’s strengths and interests, choose appropriate teaching strategies and design the learning environment.
We believe in providing countless opportunities for children to play! For a child, play is work and is a vital process of growing up. It is essential for their creative, social, intellectual, emotional, and physical development. It is an important element of the human condition that offers us friends, freedom, joy, as well as power, imagination, ritual, and community. Through play children explore and learn to understand the world around them as they come to communicate, discover, imagine, and create. When children play with other children they create “social groups, test out ideas, challenge each other’s thinking and build new understandings. Play provides a supportive environment where children can ask questions, solve problems, and engage in critical thinking. Play can expand children’s thinking and enhance their desire to know and to learn. In these ways, play can promote positive dispositions towards learning” (EYLF, 2009, pg. 15)
