Welcome to
Thornton Child Care
and Preschool Centre
Connection. Play. Learning.
Thornton Child Care and Preschool Centre provides high-quality early education and care within our natural, home-like environments.
Joey’s Room
(0-3 Years)
At Thornton Child Care and Preschool Centre we recognise that learning starts from birth. We believe that children need countless opportunities to learn through play and our indoor and outdoor learning environments are thoughtfully created to encourage children to explore and actively engage in learning. Through play, children learn to understand the world around them as they come to communicate, discover, imagine, and create.
We are mindful of the importance of consistency for children, especially with flexible routines for our 0-2-year-old’s. Our educators work in partnership with families to ensure that each child’s routines are kept as close as possible to what they experience at home. We acknowledge the importance of families as a child’s first teacher and work closely with parents to meet each child’s individual requirements.
We focus on building a relationship of trust and security with each child and family to ensure they develop a sense of belonging within our Thornton “family”.
Kangaroo’s Room
(3-5 years)
At Thornton Child Care and Preschool Centre relationships are at the centre of all we do. Our goal is to have our preschool children head off to school with a strong self-image, positive social skills, and a love of learning. Through our play-based curriculum children are provided with countless opportunities to participate in individual, small group, or large group learning experiences. Through these experiences, children develop early academic skills, communication skills, positive social relationships, self-regulation skills, self-help skills, and motor and coordination skills.
We believe in providing children with opportunities to develop the skills needed to confidently transition to school daily and provide a carefully planned learning environment that is both stimulating and safe where children can explore, discover, and experiment. Children can form friendships with peers and develop skills to work cooperatively with others. They learn to make decisions, listen to, and follow directions, try new things, and build resilience.
We are proud to work in partnership with our local schools transition programs and have close links with the local Transition Support Teacher.
